5 FREE Ways to Promote Your Music

5 FREE Ways to Promote Your Music

Sometimes it feels like the only way you can promote your music is by splashing the cash.

This is FALSE!

There are multiple ways in which you can spread the word and get your music out there without sacrificing that coin.

Reach Out to YouTube Creators

Music gets played on YouTube a LOT.

I’ve found myself Shazaming multiple YouTube videos to find out what music is being played.

Find YouTubers that genre-match your music and reach out to them to see if they would be interested in playing your music in their videos.

It’s important to analyse your choice and make sure that the YouTuber you’ve chosen makes sense.

Working with 1-to 2 creators who are a good match is so better than working with a bigger group that doesn’t work.

Bigger creators would most likely want to be paid so find people who have a small but dedicated fanbase.

Instagram Stories

If you’re not already familiar with how to get your music on Instagram Stories, check out this very helpful video from Adriel Rivera!

Once your music is in the Instagram Stories library, you can add it to your stories (yay!)

This is a fantastic way to engage with your Instagram followers.

Although your Stories will most likely not be seen by people who don’t follow you, nurturing your engaged audience is just as, if not more, important than reach.

Having your music in the Insta library also means others can use it and promote your music to their loyal followers and who knows, maybe they will love it and share it on their stories!

Submit Your Music to Spotify Playlists

This is a super-easy way to try and gain more listeners on Spotify.

Submitting to playlists takes a matter of seconds and can be done in bulk on a rainy afternoon.

Make sure you’re only submitting to users that have relevant playlists that match your genre and vibe.

There’s no point spamming every playlist you come across, it’s a waste of time.

Create an Electronic Press Kit

An electronic press kit, or EPK, is kind of like a CV for your band.

It should contain things like a bio, photos, music, videos, achievements etc – a coherent list of everything important about you.

It can be as simple as a PDF document or as fleshed out as a website. It’s up to you!

Once you have your EPK together, you can share it with relevant people and you can add to it along the way.

Get on TikTok

As reluctant as some are to jump on TikTok, it’s a platform that I highly recommend you utilise to grow a larger following.

With the fastest-growing user base of any other social media, TikTok has fans ready and waiting for you to find them.

Check out my post about TikTok’s influence on the music industry here to see how powerful this platform really can be.
